How Loss Can Inspire You to Live Fully
That realization may come in waves. For me, one of the most profound moments was when I lost my mum. Her passing made me deeply aware of how fleeting time is and how easily we can get caught up in the illusion that we have all the time in the world. Sitting with her towards the end reminded me that life is happening now, not in some distant future when everything is perfectly aligned. That experience set me on a journey to truly live fully, to say yes more, and to stop waiting.
You may also find yourself at a crossroads, faced with a choice between staying in a situation that no longer serves you or stepping into the unknown. That choice can be terrifying, but it’s also the first real step toward reclaiming your life. Walking away from what is familiar isn’t easy. It requires courage, trust, and a willingness to rebuild.
When you stop waiting for permission to live fully, life opens up in ways you never imagined.
As a Canadian life coach, I’ve helped so many women navigate this transition, and I know firsthand how powerful it is when you take that leap.
From Fear to Fulfillment: Why Now is the Best Time to Start Living Fully
How many times have you told yourself, "I’ll do it later"? Maybe it’s taking that dream trip, launching a passion project, or making a bold career move. You convince yourself that the ‘right’ time will come. The truth? The right time is when you choose it to be.
Finding fulfillment starts with making the conscious decision to embrace your desires today—not someday.
One of my life coaching clients, a woman in her 40s, spent years putting everyone else first—her children, her job, her partner. She felt like she was meant for more but was paralyzed by fear. When we started working together, she identified small, manageable actions: carving out one hour a week for herself, saying yes to something just for her, and speaking her truth even when it felt uncomfortable. Over time, those small choices led to a career pivot she never thought possible and a new sense of confidence and fulfillment she hadn’t felt in decades.
Small Steps, Big Change: How Tiny Actions Lead to Living Fully
The thought of change can feel overwhelming. That’s why breaking it down into small, meaningful actions makes all the difference. Rather than focusing on the massive leap, ask yourself:
What’s one small thing I can do today that brings me closer to the life I want?
Each tiny step adds up, creating momentum that fuels even greater action.
I once worked with a woman who dreamed of moving abroad but was stuck in the ‘what ifs’—What if I fail? What if it’s the wrong choice? Together, through coaching, we worked through those fears, and she took her first action: researching visa requirements. That single step gave her the momentum to plan her transition, and now, she’s thriving in a new country, living a fulfilling life she once thought was impossible.
Recently, I had my own small but meaningful moment. I had driven past Bridal Veil Falls dozens of times, always telling myself I’d stop one day. Last month, I finally did. I took the turn, parked my car, and walked through the woods to the falls. And in that moment, standing there in the trees, I reminded myself that these little choices—choosing to pause, to appreciate, to take action—are what shape a full life.
You get to chose when. You get to make now the right time. You get to live fully.
Why This Canadian Life Coach Chose the Camino to Embrace Living Fully
I’ve always loved hiking and nature, and for years, I dreamed about doing something like the Appalachian Trail. But when my lover suggested the Camino de Santiago, something clicked. The more we chatted, and I learned about the different routes the more it made sense. I have to do this. I have chosen to walk the 620 km / 385 mile route from Lisbon. Portugal is affordable, the food and coffee are amazing, and unlike other long hikes, I wouldn’t have to carry a tent or food. It felt like the perfect fit.
So I didn’t overthink it—I simply booked my flights and committed to the experience.
The Camino represents so much more than just a physical journey. It’s about stripping away distractions, being present in every step, and trusting the path ahead, even when it’s uncertain. And that’s the beauty of embracing life fully—you don’t always know where the path leads, but you trust yourself enough to walk it. Now I get to enjoy 6 months of planning and preparation to squeeze even more from the experience!
Marcus Aurelius on How to Live Fully and Fearlessly
I’ve been re-reading Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, and his words have been a grounding force in this journey of living fully. One passage in particular stays with me:
“You could leave life right now. Let that determine what you do and say and think.”
It’s a reminder that you don’t have forever. You only have now. And if you only have now, why wouldn’t you choose to live it with intention, courage, and joy?
Live Fully with These 3 Powerful Practices
Say Yes to Small Adventures
Whether it’s taking a new route home, trying a different restaurant, or stopping at that scenic spot you always drive past, small adventures keep life exciting and remind you to be present.
Trust Your Desires
If something has been tugging at your heart—whether it’s a creative project, a move, or a personal goal—honor it. Don’t dismiss your desires as unrealistic; they’re guiding you toward what’s meant for you.
Take the First Step
You don’t need to have the entire path figured out. Just take the first small action. One step leads to another, and before you know it, you’re living the life you once only dreamed of.
Feeling Stuck? A Canadian Life Coach’s Advice on Fear, Judgment, and Overwhelm
Fear of the Unknown: It’s natural to feel hesitant when stepping into something new. Remind yourself that fear doesn’t mean stop—it means you’re growing. Learn more about embracing fear in episode 2 of the Redo You podcast.
Worrying About Others’ Opinions: Living fully often means making choices that others might not understand. Trust yourself. The people who matter will support you, and the rest aren’t your concern.
Feeling Overwhelmed: If the idea of change feels too big, break it down. What’s one small thing you can do today? Action, no matter how tiny, builds momentum. I talk about embracing change in this TV interview.
Stop Chasing the Next Goal—Live Fully by Enjoying the Journey
Living fully isn’t just about big, grand moments—it’s about the little things, too. It’s about appreciating the sunrise with a cup of coffee, laughing with friends, and feeling the thrill of trying something new. When you start celebrating these moments, you cultivate a mindset of abundance and gratitude, making life itself feel richer.
One of my life coaching clients was so focused on the ‘next thing’ that she never paused to acknowledge how far she had come. We worked together to build in moments of reflection and celebration, and she realized that fulfillment doesn’t come from checking off a goal list—it comes from being present in the journey itself.
Life Is Short—Don't Waste Time Waiting for the Perfect Moment
Life is happening now, and you have the power to shape it. As Marcus Aurelius reminds us, “You could leave life right now. Let that determine what you do and say and think.” This isn’t a call to fear but a call to action—a reminder that time is our most precious resource, and how we use it defines the quality of our lives.
Watch my television interview where I break down how living fully isn’t about waiting for the perfect moment; it’s about embracing the present, making bold choices, and trusting yourself.
It means saying yes to adventure, overcoming fear, and honoring the desires that tug at your heart. Every small step you take—whether it’s carving out time for yourself, shifting your mindset, or simply appreciating the beauty in everyday moments—builds momentum toward a life of true fulfillment.
Don’t let hesitation or doubt hold you back. Start today.
