How to Relight Your Fire!

It is common to get so caught up in the day-to-day that you lose your sense of self, and perhaps no longer feel excitement for your life. No matter if your funk is related to work, relationships or anything else, this fun exercise will reignite your flame and get you back in the game.

Check out the activities listings at your local community centre and browse the events near you on Facebook or Eventbrite. Spend time daydreaming about the things you used to do as a child, the things you used to dream of doing, and plans you set on the back burner.

Notice which activities do and don’t appeal and look for themes. Are you more drawn to group or solitary activities? Active or calm? Indoor or outdoor? Competitive or not? Is creativity important to you? This self-reflection helps you to understand yourself better and to notice your preferences. There is no right or wrong, so don’t judge yourself!

Perhaps you learn that you enjoy being active outdoors in a competitive environment, or that you prefer solitary creative pursuits indoors. Gather as much data as you can about your preferences and then see what activities you can find that fulfil as many of your criteria as possible. You might join a pickleball league or sign up for a writing course – or maybe both! Have fun trying different things and notice what you get out of them. Pay attention to the shifts in your energy and continue honing down your activities to find the ones that make your heart sing.

Once you start feeling stuck and frustrated in one area of your life, that frustration starts seeping into other areas. The great news is it works the other way too, so by finding joy in your leisure time, you boost your mood in all other areas of your life too. This is a great exercise to employ any time you are feeling stuck in a rut as it will inspire you to reconnect to what is important to you and reignite your passion and purpose for life.
